The Wings of Freedom (ErenxMikasa)

The raven hair girl stared blankly at the dewy morning grass, taking in a shaky breath. Every living thing around her was covered in dark, sticky blood. The grass she sat on was bright but wilting, soaking in the cruel spills of blood. Mikasa couldn’t feel her arms, they were so stiff and freezing. She peered at the red scarf in her hands, the first and last present her brother gave her. Inside, she felt numb, trying to take in what had happened. Her heart felt ripped in half, she couldn’t breathe. Her brother had wrapped her scarf around her, giving her a look that she knew meant he wasn’t coming back after he shifted into a Titan. Her inference was right, Eren was dead.

He was laying right in front of her, eyes wide open, as if he was searching the sky for something. Mikasa began shaking, lifting his body carefully onto her lap. She wrapped her ragged bloody scarf around his neck, trying to cover up the wounds as if it would make him come back to life. Tears began to form, and she didn’t push them back. She let them freely flow, warm and wet as they landed on Eren’s cold face, lifeless and dull eyes. Knowing that she should blame the Titans for this, she couldn’t help but feel like it should’ve been her duty to protect her only family that she had left. Letting out a cry, she put her head to Eren’s chest, wanting to hear his heart beat, one last time, once again. There was nothing and she screamed for him to wake up, but still nothing came from Eren. She caressed his unmoving face, looking into his beautiful turquoise eyes, trying to find something, anything. Her dream had been destroyed, the one which gave her a relaxed and free life to continue striving to live with her brother.

But then, she saw it. He was gone, but there was definitely one emotion in his eyes, telling her he made it with the others, happily.

It was the look of freedom.
